Inspired by old school desks, the Dodde Side table is an exploration of Japanese style joinery. It’s a deceptively simple (though not complicated) object, made up of numerous in-set and dowel joints.
The soft pine invites the wear and tear of everyday life to take place on its surface; the table aims to communicate warmth though its nostalgic forms and soft, organic materials/textures that indirectly invite the user to touch.
Scope: furniture
Dimensions: 24″ x 22″ x 18″
Materials: pine, linseed oil
Joinery & Finish
This table does not feature any conventional hardware, only dowel joints. It also utilizes linseed oil as it’s finish. This allows for complete recycling of the object at the end of it’s life cycle. Aesthetically, this finish also evidently “ages” (yellows over time).
This approach requires regular table maintenance— regular re-oiling and sanding is recommended— and this prompts the user to treat the object with more care and indirectly increase it’s longevity.
